"Your talent could be your biggest safety net." -- Rev. Albert Ocran
The concept of talent is so important for career success and fulfillment. Many people have sought to pursue a job at the detriment of their heartfelt talent. On the Springboard Your Virtual University Show on Joy 99.7 FM with Rev. Albert Ocran, he interviewed two National Service Personnel who are earnestly using their talents and making money in the midst of COVID-19 when there is not much to be done in their respective offices.
In this write-up, I seek to glean some relevant lessons from this interview to help us activate our inborn abilities for career fulfillment. Yes, it is possible to go without your talent but the question is: how well can a fish perform when placed on dry land instead of water?
Two Talent Personnel
Our two National Service personnel are actively doing their service whilst using their talents to generate money.

| Naa |
Felicia Naa Kordie Odonkor is a service personnel at GES, Dodowa, Ghana. She has a background in Basic Education from University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana. Additionally, she has a certificate in Early Childhood Education. But Naa has other parts of her that operate multiple talents. She writes, cooks, bakes, makes fresh juice, and retail cloth. She says that using her talents of cooking, making fresh juice, and retailing clothes make her money in addition to what she earns from the National Service office.

| Sam |
Samuel Opoku on the other hand is a service personnel at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) where he completed his first degree in Communication Design. On the side of talent; he sings, paints, design graphics, and does photography. He has painted nice portraits and displayed them on Facebook. Sam says he is using his talents to raise money to fund his singing ambition.
4 Lessons from the Personnel
For me, these two National Service personnel represent many workers who are actively doing their work and can also activate their talent for extra income and greater fulfillment.
#1. Everyone Has A Talent
From the above stories of Naa and Sam, we can learn that everyone has one talent or more. Everyone can do something naturally that can bring income. Some people can cook, sing, write, paint, joke, design, sell, dance, etc. Talents are natural abilities given by God. We must know that each one has one or more.
#2. Everyone Must Discover Their Talent
Knowing that everyone has a talent is not enough. We must take steps to discover it. Find it. Some tips to help include; assess yourself what you can do well, or ask people close to you what they think you do well. Take steps to discover your God-given talent.
#3. Everyone Must Use Their Talent
Discovering your talent and not using it is like having electricity at home and not using it to power your gadgets. The only way you can benefit from your talent is when you start using it. You will not be perfect but with time, you will get it right.
#4. Everyone Can Monetize Their Talent
Naa and Sam have started using their talents to earn money. Many times people complain they are not paid well but they fail to know that money is a function of value you bring to the marketplace. Musicians make money by recording albums and getting opportunities to perform at events. There are multiple ways we can display our talent to earn more money whilst achieving fulfillment and blessing God.
