5 Things HR Practitioners Can Do In The Midst Of Covid-19 - African Women's Voices Show

What can HR practitioners do to maintain a safe working environment for workers? African Women's Voices show with Eunice Tornyi on eTV Ghana helped to answer this question. The topic for discussion was The Role of HR Practitioners in the Midst of COVID-19 and the guest was Fafa Gbeho, HR manager at Global Media Alliance. She shared critical tips to help HR Practitioners do a good job in these turbulent times.

According to Fafa, the HR Practitioner is an advisor, counselor, administrator, and auditor. He or she combines all of these to discharge their duties effectively. She went on to say that the HR person looks out for the interest of the company which comprises the employer and the employees.

When asked what HR measures must be put in place to ensure the safety of workers during this COVID-19, she shared the following tips.

Tip #1. Safe Working Environment
Fafa said that many organisations are maintaining strict safety working environment for all workers and even customers. Thus, the HR has a role to ensure all these things are complied with.

Tip #2. Put Systems in Place
Another tip that HR people can do is to put a system to maintain healthy practices. In some organisations, workers have been provided with face shields, nose masks, and sanitizers to protect them so that everyone will be protected.

Tip #3. Personal SafetyAnother tip noted by Fafa is that each employer and employee must personally be responsible for their own safety. The company can do something but if individuals do not do their part, safety will be compromised.

Tip #4. Log Book System
Other organisations have log books for workers to log in and out as they enter and go out. That way when there is a case, the people who were present can be traced and checked.

Tip #5. Education on Safety Practices
Another important thing shared by Fafa was for HR people to educate workers on the right ways of wearing nose masks, washing of hands, and using sanitizers. We must not assume people know. We must help them to do the right thing.

These are simple but important tips to help everyone to become safe in companies that HR Practitioners must champion. COVID-19 may not be going soon and so we must do everything possible to ensure the safety of workers and consequently their families and friends at large.
