I am not a football fanatic but the little I know includes who scored, penalty, free kick, and over the bar. Imagine that a striker takes the ball, manages to dribble all opponents and finally comes face to face with the goal keeper, the eager expectation of the fans is to see a goal scored. Nothing matters. There are instances where people with such great opportunity, kick the ball and all we see is the ball goes over the bar to the much disappointment of the fans. It hurts. Some fans even feel they should beat the player.
Real life can be much the same way too. People can start with great effort and zeal but only throw away great opportunities to score real goals to make people cheer them and go home happy. When biblical Paul the Apostle was writing to the church at Corinth, he told them they must not beat the air. They must aim well and hit and score.
I want us to learn a few lessons from the life of King Solomon of ancient Israel. Solomon started very well in the will of God but later deviated and turned his back on God and served other gods. Here is the big question: what makes people who start well finally kick life and score no goal?
The people in our lives are like elevators, they can either take us up or bring us down. We must watch who we have in our lives. For Solomon, he married people from other nations who caused him to serve other gods. They influenced him negatively. We must not entertain people in our lives who are not going where we are going. Let’s watch our association or we will kick over the bar.
How do we check it?
