WHAT PEOPLE KNOW ABOUT YOU

Everyday Lessons #9

Every one of us carves a unique identity for ourselves that people come to know so well about us. We may be kind, gentle, outgoing, crook, thief, humble or even God fearing. You can either be a mix of bad and good traits or only one of the two. Whatever the case, people know us for something and they will always say it about us when we are around or not.

The media in Ghana has reported of the killing of a 26-year old man by the police in a reported mistaken identity. My focus is not to say who is right or wrong but I want us to draw a lesson from what the mother of the victim said. “My son is not a thief. He helps my nephew in his work,” she said. This is when the police said the victim was an arm robber.

What do people close to you know about you? Whether positive or negative, that is exactly what they will reveal about you as testimony where the need arises. We can be intentional about what we want people to know about us or we can leave it to chance. The choice is yours.
