BE POSITIVE

Your perspective in life determines what you see always.
If anyone told me I would ever be positive about issues of life at the level I am now, I would have considered it as a pinch of salt. As a student activist in school, my whole perspective was to identify problems. I wrote articles with fixation on problems on campus and how leaders were inept at solving them. I lashed out at student’s leaders and authorities alike. It never occurred to me that I saw things the way I was and not the way things were. Negative people are blinded to see positives in anything around you.

So, why really must you cultivate the character of being positive? Let me note that whether you are positive or negative, you learnt it! Being positive helps you and people around you. Indeed, what makes people see opportunities rather than problems is their outlook in life. People have created successful businesses as a result of their positivity in life. Why be positive? Two reasons.

Positivity Sees Opportunities. One fine day I saw a published book being sold at a place I thought was off the target market. It struck me to write a proposal to the author to embark on a book tour through the core target market. I believed doing those tours would lead to a major breakthrough for the book. Instead of seeing it as a problem, I saw it as an opportunity to think through a solution. Being positive makes you see solutions rather than problems.

Positivity Sees People’s Best. You will always see other people the way you are. Jesus put it this way: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself’. (Mark 12:31) You see other people through the eyes of your own nature. For instance, negative people see the weaknesses of people and not their strengths. But positive people focus on the strengths of others to get the best out of them in spite of their weaknesses. Be positive and see the amazing results others can produce.

Positive or negative, they are choices we embrace individually. No one force them on us. It’s been said that nothing can happen within you unless you allow it. I believe it is more natural to be negative than to be positive. Everything around us seems to shape us into negativity. You must work out your own positivity with fear and trembling. May you be changed!
