A leader must give up to go up. John C. Maxwell
A while ago, I went to the bookstore to buy books but realised my money could not buy two books as planned but only one. The money I had was less to buy two books but more to buy one good book at a time. What did I do? I sacrificed one book to buy only one book. The concept of sacrifice is at constant play in our everyday life. By way of definition, the Oxford dictionary says that sacrifice is “the fact of giving up something important or valuable to you in order to get or do something that seems more important.” Consider the following:
In school, students sacrifice all outings and other engagements during exams time. It’s a big deal because they want to pass their exams. Even those students seen to be unserious, suddenly assumes another different posture.
In marriage, you let go old friends when you want to really make your relationship work, according to marriage counsellors. The more people you have to satisfy, the less time you will have for your spouse.
On his second return to Apple, Steve Jobs turned around the company by letting go many things they were engaged in so that they focused on only computers and few other gadgets. Today Apple is rated amongst the top ten most valuable companies on earth.
In my own life, after reading the series of 30 Day Challenge by Matt Cutts on his weblog, I decided to start my own monthly challenges. In January this year, I am sacrificing my movie watching. I am not watching any movie the whole month. I saw it is quite a distractive tool if not checked.
So, what choices are you going to make concerning sacrifice? What is the piece of your life that you are willing to let go in order to focus on important tasks to achieve massive results like the Apple story with Steve Jobs. You may sacrifice some time you spend facebooking, watsuping, calls making, TV watching, visiting friends, listening to unproductive talk shows and more. New Year resolutions and big plans in this year will amount to nothing if you continuously do what you used to do in 2012. Albert Einstein once said that insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results. Start now to sacrifice more to get more! God Loves You.
