She will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus,
for He will save His people from their sins. Matt 1:21 NKJV
What does the birth of Christ mean to you? The danger of life is when we celebrate something commonly that we miss its true purpose. The birth of Christ is one of a kind. It’s about how a Man’s mission changed the whole world. By mission, I mean the reason why you live. In this season, I want to share four uncommon lessons about Jesus’ birth concerning personal mission.
MISSION IS PERSONAL: The first lesson is that each one of us is mission birthed. There were many great prophets who appeared before Jesus but none of them had the same mission as Him. His mission was to “save His people from their sins”. Ask yourself: why am I here on earth? Do you know why you’re still alive? The reason why you exist is because of your mission pure and simple.
MISSION IS TIMELY: Most Africans believe they were born on the wrong side of life. Others think they should have been born in another era. Friend, God doesn’t make mistakes. He wouldn’t have released you if there was no problem for you to solve at this time of history. Jesus’ mission was over 2,000 years ago. You were born for such a time as this. I believe there is a particular problem awaiting you at this time of history wherever you are. You are a solution.
MISSION IS PREDESTINED: Even before He was born, Jesus’ mission had been made known. That simply means your mission is there before you were born. Our duty is to discover it and not create it. Forget it, school or society cannot show you the reason for being. God is the architect of all missions for all humanity. Seek your predestined mission from God.
MISSION IS TRANS-GENERATIONAL: Every great admired person has a trans-generational mission. When we think of the independence of Ghana, we think Kwame Nkrumah. When we think about cocoa, we think Tetteh Quarshie. When we think boxing, we think Azumah Nelson. If the mission you have been living cannot transcend your family, then go back to God. The reason why we celebrate Christmas years on is that Christ’s mission was beyond His time. Are you living a trans-generational mission?
Anyone who dreams of a great life must grapple with Jesus’ price-tagged statement. He advised in Mark 8:34 that, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” In other words, you can never reach greatness in Christ without a personal mission from God. In this season, go to God, ask for your mission and die living it. Merry Christmas.
