5 PEOPLE YOU NEED

In the article, 4 People You Must Avoid, I wrote about four people in the Bible who typify the kinds of people we must leave behind in our quest to grab our future. Even God in His manifold wisdom sent the person of the Holy Spirit to help us in our earthly assignments (John 14:16). Everyone needs a helper. Positive relationships are critical to a better future. Once you get raid of bad people, it is a necessity to fill their place with good people. If you don’t make a conscious effort to choose the right people in your life, anyone will make you his friend. Remember, Jesus chose the 12 disciples by Himself amongst many who showed interest in becoming His disciples. I believe the Bible is the greatest resource material available on success in life. Let’s consider the five people we need.

Advisors (Moses & Jethro): Moses was a good freedom fighter but a bad administrator. He was worse at delegating to others. Every leader has a weakness. Yours is not to feed your weakness but delegate to others. One lesson from Jethro about the power of delegation changed the entire leadership landscape of the Israelites. Identify such advisors and apply their lessons in your field of work. Moses did virtually everything by himself. But it took someone from outside the whole nation of Israel to teach him the right thing. This is wisdom! It is humbling to know that you don’t know it all. This informs companies all over the world to appoint a board to advice on how to do things effectively. Every great leader needs a great advisor. Reference: Exodus 18.

Fathers (Joshua & Moses): Moses had confidence in Joshua. He was one of the selected few twelve sent to spy the Promised Land. He groomed him to be his successor. One thing about Joshua was that he served Moses faithfully. That means it is not enough to identify the fathers in our life but also good to spend some time to promote their cause. These are not ‘blood’ fathers. This time of volunteering can help you prepare to meet your season of elevation. Jesus said that the greatest in the kingdom of heaven are servants. At the end of his ministry, Moses impacted and passed the baton of leadership to Joshua. Everyone needs a spiritual father. Reference: Deuteronomy 31:1-8.

Preservers (David & Jonathan): Saul was an envious boss of David because he could not stand his success. He sort to kill David because he was being hyped than himself. He was an insecure boss. In these trying moments, David had Jonathan (son of Saul) who graciously helped and strengthened him. You need preservers who can be by you to strengthen you when the times are tough. Indeed, anyone pursuing a dream will experience difficult days, months and years. But God is faithful; He will always send the Jonathans to help you not to give up. Reference: 1 Samuel 20.

Identifiers (Esther & Mordecai): Sometimes you need someone to point to you without fear or favour what you have been sent to achieve at a workplace. Esther was such a person who never grasped her purpose for her position as queen until her uncle and mentor Mordecai’s advice. Her purpose was to save the Jews from being perpetually extinguished from the face of the earth. She intervened. This is true for today. God send us to places for peculiar purposes. Gospel musician Kirk Franklin was identified and groomed by her auntie. You need identifiers to point you to your true purpose in life. Reference: Esther 4.

Announcers (Jesus & John the Baptist): Jesus the Son of God was introduced into His ministry by John the Baptist. He was the announcer of the arrival of the message and the messenger of the kingdom of heaven to the public. They were in the same industry and offered the same service. This is critical because it maintains order and continuity. In my country Ghana, political opponents can’t work together in an all-inclusive government. They don’t trust others who are not card bearing members of their political parties to work in the same government. Jesus showed a big lesson here that we need others to endorse and help promote our work. John was just an announcer but it made a difference in Jesus’ ministry. Reference: John 1:19-28.

People are crucial in our field of work. Call it partnership or mentorship it is all about the right people playing their huge roles. There are mistakes and errors which can easily be avoided if the right people are identified and their life lessons taken seriously. I believe just like the great boxer Mike Tyson was discovered and groomed by Cus D’Amato, there are people God has lined up to help us in wherever His’ called us. You need people!
