Everyone aspires to achieve a worthwhile dream for a fresh year. Some call it New Year Resolution. I choose to call it New Year Dream. Whilst it is great to resolutions, I believe New Year Dream deals with far reaching vision for the whole year. This helps to reinforce and draw you closer to your purpose in life. Statistics show that a few 2% of all humans have a plan for their lives. The many 98% have no plan. There is no magic to that. Successful people have a proven strategy: They conceive a vision, set goals, make plans, and unyieldingly act on their plans. As you set out to dream and put it to test, take note of the following propelling factors.
Put Away Procrastination. Procrastination is one of the killer diseases of dreams. Procrastinators listen to their feelings more than they act contrary to their feelings. The only best time to do something is now or never! One of the onslaughts to deferring things to later date is self-motivation. If you wait for a person or circumstances to be perfect before you do something, you will delay your dream. Motivate yourself to do what you must do. It takes time and personal conscious efforts to part ways with procrastination in order to achieve your New Year Dream.
Pure Focus. If you lose focus, you will lose your dream. In my stock taking for 2011, I realized that distractions from other things somehow were a bane to achieving what I set out to do. Focus will keep you in track in spite of all distractive elements that will come your way. Learn to fix your eyes on your goals. Elements such as people and new opportunities can easily sway you from what you want to accomplish. Keep single-mindedness by thinking of the benefits of realizing your dream.
Progressive Association.Every person in your life either adds to or subtracts from your life. There is no midway to that!Progressive people determine the pace and mood of your life. They determined how fast or slow you move towards your dream. Last year I was blessed to have positive and progressive people in my life who stretched my paradigm. The environments you place yourself in foster the kinds of people you meet. Most of the resourceful people in my life I met either at church or monthly seminars or conferences I attended. The right people are indispensable to realizing your New Year Dream.
Positive Attitude. In my days at the University, I used to struggle with Psychology because I saw it as difficult and the lecturers were uninteresting coupled with the fact that you’d to sit in a discomforting class for 2 hours. I got worse grades for three years until an attitudinal shift in my final year changed my grades. Now I look back and see that the problem wasn’t the circumstances but how I reacted to what happened to me. Many people go through life with negative attitudes towards almost everything. Truth is,with negative attitude, you will fail.To have positive attitude, continually move with the mindset that there are opportunities in every situation that you go through. The Apostle Paul wrote in Romans 8:28that,“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”A positive attitude like the one Paul encourages us to have will position you for greater opportunities to achieve your New Year Dream.
Altogether, it is not easy to practice the above points. But they will inure to your benefit in the long run if you practice them. Reason is it is easy to teach but difficult to practice. That’s why success is not easy to come by. Every candidate who wants to achieve his or her New Year Dream cannot do without observing the principles discussed. If you go through the difficulties of incorporating these principles in your life, it will ease the way to accomplishing your dream for this year. Happy New Year!
