Why New Year Resolutions Don’t Get Achieved

WHY NEW YEAR RESOLUTIONS DON’T GET ACHIEVED
Years ago, I thought just setting fantastic New Year Resolutions get them achieved. Little did I know that there is more to that. People set beautiful resolutions and get little or none out of it. Having resolutions is good, but more pressing is whether you are ready to get them achieved.
The difference between achievers and none achievers is always in results. Students set resolutions to get as many A’s as possible, smokers set to quit addiction, lawyers set to win more cases in their career, alcoholics set to quit drinking, etc. May I ask: Are you ready to pay the price?
Below are top five hindrances to achieving our resolutions:
Habits Determine How Far You Go With Your Resolutions. It’s been said that habits are more powerful than laws. How true! Old habits stifle resolutions. For instance, if a lawyer wants to climb the ladder of his profession by winner more cases, he has to commit to continuous self-development. Petty habits of laziness towards this will not get him far. In the same vein, an alcoholic must quit the company of drunkards to help put an end to drinking. He must intend to choose new friends who can help him reach his desired end.
Indeed, the saying is true that old habits die hard. But more powerful are your willingness to overcome your habits.
Many Set Resolutions, But Few Achieve Them. Successful people have the end of a task in mind. This is important because when the storms come, they focus on the end. Few are ready to defy the odds. That is why there are few successful people at the top whilst the bottom is always crowded.
Setting goals and achieving them are not for chicken-hearted people. The Bible says in Matthew 22:14 that, “…MANY are CALLED, but FEW are CHOSEN.” (emphasis mine) Many were those Jesus died for, but few get to know and do according to the will of the father who sent Him. Get this: The world is ruled by the few who get things done. Jesus had a secret of getting things done.
Successful People Manage Resolutions Daily. In his book, Today Matters, John C. Maxwell said that, “Successful people make right decisions early and manage those decisions daily.” The decision to have independent financial status is made early and once. The rest is management of expenses, using budget, investment, etc. The longer you manage your decisions, the more successful you become.
Many people think having resolutions is an end in itself. Sorry, it’s just the beginning. You will be tested daily for your commitments towards them with changing circumstances. Storms will come your way, disappointments will have their share, but you have to know that it is not over until it is over.
Your Resolutions Must Feed Your Purpose In Life. Dr. Mike Murdock, author and preacher said that, “The secret of your future is hidden in your daily routine.” Your future has your assignment in it belly. Know this: The future can only be realized with the activities of today. Your daily routines add to or subtract from your purpose in life.
The challenge of life is to discover your purpose and align your daily routine with it.
Quitters Don’t Win And Winners Don’t Quit. This is about the spirit of perseverance. One push may have you there. Are you ready to take that bold step? You can’t be a winner, if your cheapest option, in the midst of crisis, is to quit.
How you see the problem is the problem. And when you see problems instead of opportunities, you will quit. Life is made that way. Do you think God would have made the earth and heavens if all he saw were problems with the formless and darkness stricken earth? (Genesis 1:2) I think God saw an opportunity to extend his kingdom for his children to dominate (Genesis 1:26.) If Mandela never gave up, why should you?
